Delete Account Request
This page explains how users of The Local can request account deletion and what data is deleted or retained.
1. How to request deletion
Use one of the methods below:
- In the app: Open Settings then choose Delete all my data.
- By email: Send your request to thelocallondon@gmail.com using the email address linked to your account.
To help us verify your request, include your The Local username and your account email address.
2. What data is deleted
- Account profile data (email, username, profile details, avatar).
- Uploaded media linked to your account (for example profile and post images).
- User-generated private account associations where feasible (for example friend request state tied to your account identifier).
3. What may be retained
- Content needed for safety, fraud prevention, abuse handling, or legal compliance.
- Minimal server logs, audit records, and moderation records for security and policy enforcement.
- Anonymized community content where deleting it would break conversation/history integrity.
4. Retention periods
- Deletion processing target: within 30 days of a verified request.
- Security/legal retention: selected records may be retained for up to 180 days, or longer if required by law.
- Backups: encrypted backups may persist for up to 35 days before automatic overwrite.
If you signed up through an app store purchase flow or another provider, deleting your The Local account does not cancel external subscriptions. Manage subscriptions in your store account settings.
